bike rental near me

When it’s been bitterly cold for weeks on end, it’s hard to remember what warm weather feels like. But winter will be over soon, and you’ll have the chance to bike in Massachusetts again. Spring can be pretty muddy around here, however, so you may want to wait before getting back on the mountain bike. In the meantime, there are plenty of great trails perfect for road bikes. Go alone or bring your family; you’ll find wheels for everyone with our bike rental options at The Break Bike Shop.

Can’t wait to get back on your bike this spring? Here are three trails in Massachusetts perfect for road bikes to check out.

Minuteman Commuter Bikeway

Many residents use the Minuteman Commuter Bikeway as an alternative route to work, but it also makes for a fun weekend or early afternoon ride. The trail runs 10.1 miles from the Boston suburbs to the outskirts of the city. Along the way, you’ll see points of historical interest as the trail roughly follows Paul Revere’s “The British are Coming!” horseback ride. You can also stop at bakeries and shops along the way. If you want to get some off-trail recreation in at the same time, kayak or canoe on Spy Pond or hike in Arlington’s Great Meadows.

Shining Sea Bikeway

If you like to feel the ocean breeze while you bike, the Shining Sea Bikeway is the trail for you. Named for the lyric in “America the Beautiful” (written by Falmouth native Katharine Lee Bates), the Shining Sea Bikeway is the only Cape Cod bikeway with a seaside section. The 10.7-mile trail passes through both the Great and Little Sippewissett Marshes. Stop at the overlook in the marsh to see Chapoquoit Beach and Massachusetts’ famous cranberry bogs. Near the end of the trail, take in views of the Atlantic Ocean and Surf Drive Beach.

Ashuwillticook Rail Trail

Moving to the western part of the state, we have the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail in beautiful Berkshire County. The 11.9-mile trail winds through the Hoosic River Valley and features views of mountains, lakes, and rivers. Ride along the shore of the 418-acre Cheshire Reservoir and take in the magnificent view of Mount Greylock, the highest point in the state.
