Where’s Chester: Amesbury, MA to Chester, NH
If you’re looking for a full-day ride that doesn’t take you too far from home, the Where’s Chester trail is the perfect choice. Starting in Amesbury, MA, the trail takes you through picturesque farmland and historic small towns. The trail also has some hills, gaining 2,500 feet in elevation along the way. But you’ll be so distracted by the foliage and the scenery that you will barely notice the climbs. To see the foliage at its peak, ride this trail in mid or late October. That’s also the time of year when Chester residents and businesses display their creative scarecrows.
North Road: Bethel, MA to Gorham, NH via Evans Notch
For riders who prefer to get further away from home, the North Road from Bethel, ME, to Gorham, NH, is a great fall ride. You have to take a bit of a detour to go through Evans Notch, but the breathtaking views of the Androscoggin River and the White Mountains make it well worth the effort. The majority of the trail runs along the Androscoggin River, so you’ll have a beautiful view throughout your ride.
